In recent years, many manufacturers are undertaking major change to achieve advanced monozukuri (Japanese for manufacturing) by incorporating robot automation and information and communications technology (ICT) such as IoT and AI. However, there are a number of issues involved in developing a production system that uses robots: training personnel to have robot expertise and prolonged development periods.
SANYO DENKI's SANMOTION C motion controller features various functions to reduce program development time and solve these problems. Let's share some of these functions.

Robot posture control

The SANMOTION C motion controller has a mechanism setting tool for easily controlling the robot posture. The robot posture can be controlled simply by setting the type, arm length, and gear ratio of the robot to be developed.
We provide a teaching pendant for easily programming robot motion. Wizard-style screens simplify the process of setting complex robot hand positions. Moreover, we provide commands for operating robots with ease.
These functions make it possible to program robot motion in a short period.

Robot motion simulation

SANMOTION C also provides software that can simulate robot motion. This enables you to safely and efficiently check robot operations without actually operating robots and to visually analyze each axis motion (position, speed, and acceleration) in 3D.
Even after the controller is installed in an actual robot, the robot motion can be checked using simulation. Moreover, video footage can be recorded while logging motor speed, acceleration, and torque data, and this information can be used to analyze minor robot stops or to improve robot cycle time.

In this way, by using the SANMOTION C's robot support technology, even users without robot expertise can develop robot motion programs in a short period of time.
Such technology has already been used in our manufacturing.
For example, let’s look at the part insertion process of servo amplifier PCBs that we used to rely on humans to do.
For efficient production, we use an in-house robot to load and unload PCBs to and from an in-circuit tester then to transfer PCBs to the downstream process.
By using the robot development support technologies of SANMOTION C, we were able to develop this robot in one-third of the time typically required, and minimize startup costs. The newly built part insertion process achieves four times greater productivity and two-thirds shorter production lead time compared to the conventional process. Moreover, it enabled us to produce several different varieties of PCBs on the same production line, therefore productivity and flexibility have been dramatically improved.

SANYO DENKI will continue enhancing support technologies for the introduction and use of robots to further improve productivity and flexibility.
