Company D, an inspection equipment manufacturer, was facing issues with a new inline-type circuit board visual inspection device that it was currently developing.
The problem was the drive speed of the high-resolution camera installed in the inspection device. Director A of the company's Design and Development Department recalls:
"Demand for component mounting equipment has shifted from large circuit boards for TVs and PCs to small circuit boards for smartphones and tablets, and there is now a need for high-precision mounting of small electronic components. For smartphones and tablets, product demand is concentrated at the time of market release, so there is an increasing need for mass mounting in a shorter period of time. As a result, there is also a need for faster speeds in the circuit board appearance inspection equipment built into production lines. In order to increase inspection speed, it is necessary to increase the speed of the camera's drive axis, but the thrust of the motors installed in conventional models was insufficient."
Mr. A and his development team began gathering information in order to realize how to increase the speed of the camera's drive axis.
Mr. A, who had been gathering information, noticed a linear servo motor from SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. and immediately consulted the person in charge about the problems his company was having with its inspection equipment.
After listening to Mr. A's concerns in detail, the SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. staff proposed a center magnet type linear servo motor for the X-axis and a twin type linear servo motor for the Y-axis to increase the speed of the camera's drive axis. Mr. A was satisfied with the proposal and immediately began evaluating it.
"The motor they proposed was lighter than our current linear servo motors and had a high acceleration of 25G (catalog specifications), so we were hopeful that it would enable us to achieve higher speeds. In actual machine evaluation, the acceleration was improved by 25% compared to the previous machine, and the camera drive speed increased. As a result, we were able to achieve faster inspection speeds, which led to shorter takt times." (Mr. A)
"SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. was the first in the industry to commercialize a center magnet type linear servo, which is small, has great thrust, and significantly reduces vibration and distortion. Furthermore, because the magnetic attraction force generated by the motor can be offset by the linear motor itself, we were able to make the device mechanism smaller and simpler, and expand the inspection space," said Mr. A.
Mr. A decided to adopt a linear servo motor manufactured by SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. and installed it in a new type of circuit board appearance inspection device.
Mr. A had this to say about this hire:
"We are grateful to SANYO DENKI for providing us with the optimal linear servo motor. We believe that this device will contribute to improving not only inspection efficiency but also overall productivity. We look forward to consulting with SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. on various matters in the future."
