Company O manufactures and sells various precision machining machines both domestically and internationally. In recent years, the company has been struggling with increasingly fierce price competition with overseas manufacturers. Mr. F, the head of the company's design department, who was working on developing a new model to break through this situation, had this to say:
"Our intention was to differentiate ourselves through high machining precision. However, the precision machining market is facing intensifying price competition with European products as well as China, Korea, and Taiwan, making the situation extremely tough." (Mr. F)
The design department was developing a new model that would achieve higher speeds, smaller size, and lower costs while maintaining the same machining precision. However, they were faced with several challenges during the development process.
"In the new model currently under development, we repeatedly went through trial and error to improve the feed speed of the machining table, and came to the conclusion that the inertia of the motor itself was preventing us from increasing the speed. The acceleration was insufficient to perform repeated high-speed operations over short distances. Therefore, we needed to find a motor that could provide higher acceleration."
Mr. F, who had been gathering information, consulted SANYO DENKI CO., LTD..
After listening to the details of the issues, SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. staff proposed the highly agile SANMOTION R low inertia motor.
"We found that low-inertia motors have low inertia themselves, so they can accelerate instantly up to high-speed rotation. The angular acceleration is 20% better than the current motor, so we expect to be able to improve the table feed speed. In addition, the use of low-inertia motors also improves position setting accuracy. We thought that this would enable us to improve the feed speed while maintaining accuracy." (Mr. F)
We immediately ordered a sample and performed an actual evaluation. Mr. F had this to say:
"When we actually incorporated the motor into the equipment, the feed speed of the processing table improved by 15%, and we were able to shorten the cycle time. In addition, the motor length was reduced by 18% compared to the current motor, and the mass was reduced by 21%, which led to the miniaturization of the equipment."
The long-awaited new model has achieved high machining precision and has been highly praised both in Japan and overseas. "We are grateful to SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. for providing us with the optimal proposal. We look forward to consulting with them on various matters in the future." (Mr. F)
