Case Study
I want to prevent the food showcase from fogging up.

What is a fan that meets the requirements for maintenance-free and low power consumption?

Food showcase manufacturer S Company (Number of employees: approx. 100)

Problem

Food showcases are used in a variety of business formats, including supermarkets, convenience stores, and department stores, and come in a wide variety of versions depending on the temperature of the food they store (refrigerated, warm, or room temperature) and the type of store they are used in. In recent years, the importance of showcases has increased as the market for ready-meals, such as prepared meals and bento boxes, which are prepared outside and eaten at home, has been gaining attention, and manufacturers are continuing to make development efforts to meet a variety of needs, such as freshness management and energy conservation.

We started developing a "room temperature showcase" for food, but the case became cloudy...

Company S, which manufactures and sells store fixtures and kitchen equipment, was working on developing a new "room temperature display showcase" for food in response to requests from its users.
Until now, fried foods and other prepared foods sold in stores have mainly been displayed in insulated showcases after cooking. Recently, however, there has been an increasing demand for room temperature showcases to prevent deterioration of flavor and extend shelf life, and the new product meets this need.

However, when they tested the prototype, they found that unlike the thermal insulation showcase, the steam from the freshly cooked food caused the inside of the cabinet to become cloudy.
"When steam makes it difficult to see the products inside, it can lead to a loss of desire to purchase. Since showcases are expected to not only maintain freshness but also display food in an attractive way, we needed to remove this cloudiness."

"Maintenance-free" and "Energy-saving". It's hard to find the perfect fan...

Mr. K thought that installing a fan to blow air into the display case would prevent fogging, but he ran into problems with maintenance and power consumption.

"We considered AC Cooling Fan because they had a proven track record with other refrigerated showcases. But because food showcases are used over a long period of time, we wanted the fans to have an expected lifespan of more than five years. However, AC Cooling Fan were unable to meet this requirement. Also, power consumption was an important factor for energy conservation, but it was difficult to find an optimal fan that met these requirements..." (Mr. K)

assignment
  • Steam from food causes cloudiness inside the "room temperature showcase"
  • Consider installing a fan to prevent fogging, but be mindful of its lifespan and power consumption.

Solution

65,000-hour durability - "DC Cooling Fan" achieves maintenance-free operation!

A SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. representative visited Company S shortly thereafter, and after checking the product's specifications in detail, noticed that a DC power supply was available for installation in LED lighting, and proposed a "DC Cooling Fan" to Mr. K.

DC Cooling Fan have a longer life span and consume less power than AC Cooling Fan. At an ambient temperature of 60°C, DC fans have an expected life span of 40,000 hours compared to 25,000 hours for AC Cooling Fan, making them 1.6 times more durable.
"It was exactly the fan I was looking for. Since the environment inside the case is at room temperature, it is expected to last about 65,000 hours (about 7.4 years), which is enough to make it maintenance-free." (Mr. K)

In addition, because DC Cooling Fan consume less than one-third the power of AC Cooling Fan, Mr. K decided to use a SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. Denki DC Cooling Fan.

SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. continued to support S Company's development after that. When selecting the fan, an 80mm square fan would have been sufficient to meet the requirements, but the company chose a 92mm square fan, one size larger, and reduced the rotation speed to reduce noise. Sanyo Denki proposed the optimal cooling fan based on the equipment specifications, contributing to a smooth equipment design.
"In addition, by customizing the connector processing, we were able to reduce the number of processing steps required for mass production, and we were also able to receive samples in a short period of time, which was extremely helpful.
Thanks to our customers, this "Room Temperature Display Showcase" has been well received. In the future, if we are unable to prepare a DC power supply as we develop new products, we would like to consult with SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. about AC/DC fans that run on AC power and perform similarly to DC Cooling Fan ACDC Fan" (Mr. K)

effect
  • Maintenance-free operation is achieved with the "DC Cooling Fan," which has an expected lifespan 1.6 times that of AC Cooling Fan.
  • Power consumption is less than one-third that of AC Cooling Fan.
  • We contribute to a smooth development process through short delivery times and custom processing.
