Company H manufactures and sells various electronic measuring instruments. Recently, the company was reviewing the specifications of a spectrometer that can be built into the manufacturing line in order to make it more compact. Mr. N, the manager of the design and development department at Company H, said:
"To meet the need for more compact manufacturing lines, we decided to aim to make the spectrometer smaller in the next model. This meant that we needed to replace the stepping motor that moves the diffraction grating inside the device with one that was smaller than the current 20 mm square."
"A spectrometer is a device that separates a light source containing a variety of wavelengths according to its wavelength. The diffraction grating inside the device rotates, and the monochromatic light extracted through a slit is passed through a sample and analyzed by a light measuring instrument. In order to extract clean monochromatic light, the precision of the motor that drives the diffraction grating is very important so that it can handle small slit widths." (Mr. N)
Mr. N immediately began gathering information, but he was having a hard time finding a motor that met his requirements, and he was also worried about the lack of time left until the development deadline.
Mr. N had been searching for a motor that could be made compact while maintaining the accuracy of his spectrometer and had inquired about it to several manufacturers. He eventually contacted SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. to discuss these issues.
After receiving Mr. N's consultation, the SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. representative immediately visited Company H and proposed the 14mm square 2-phase stepping motor "SANMOTION F2 ( 2-phase )."
"We looked at other companies' products, but SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. was the only company that sold HB-type stepping motors of this size. We were convinced that we could achieve a smaller size while maintaining the accuracy of our current model." (Mr. N)
Company H immediately ordered samples and conducted an evaluation.
"Because the product in question was eligible for "short-term delivery," the sample arrived two days after ordering. By quickly beginning evaluation, we managed to complete the prototype within the time frame. The accuracy was also impeccable, fully meeting the specifications. I'm grateful for the proposal that showed an understanding of our challenges." (Mr. N)
Company H decided to officially adopt SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. 's stepping motors and began mass production of the new spectrometer as scheduled. SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. 's prompt response to solving the problem was highly praised within the company.
"SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. has a wide lineup of motors, and I learned that they can meet a wide range of needs, not just our current need for miniaturization. In the future, we would like to consider adopting servo systems, and we look forward to consulting with you again when that time comes." (Mr. N)
