In recent years, the demand for medical testing equipment has been expanding rapidly in China and Southeast Asia due to growing health awareness. Company J, which develops, manufactures, and sells medical testing equipment, decided to develop a new compact model for overseas markets.
Mr. W, Director of the Research and Development Department at Company J, had this to say:
"The condition of test reagents and samples changes depending on the temperature. Therefore, to maintain the measurement accuracy of the device, it is important to prevent temperature increases inside the device. With the new model, we struggled with various heat countermeasures to maintain measurement accuracy while making it more compact than the current model. The largest cause of temperature increases is heat generated by the motor. Therefore, we decided to reconsider the motor used in the transport mechanism inside the device.
However, the development schedule for the new model was very tight, so we were worried about whether we could find an alternative motor that would generate less heat in such a short time frame." (Mr. W)
However, in order to compare as many motors as possible, the team split up and gathered information.
After consulting with several manufacturers about the tight development schedule and challenges, Mr. W was drawn to a proposal from one of the manufacturers, SANYO DENKI CO., LTD..
The person in charge at SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. quickly arranged for an evaluation sample with the same specifications as the current motor.
"First, they asked us to evaluate whether we could replace their current motor with a standard product that could be provided through our quick delivery service," said Mr. W.
A few days later, Mr. W immediately carried out a motor replacement test, and concluded that the basic performance, including vibration, noise, and torque, was sufficient.
"Regarding the issue of heat generation from the motor, we received a suggestion that it could be reduced by customizing the motor winding specifications.
Furthermore, by customizing the shaft processing, we were able to reduce the number of parts in the device, which is expected to simplify and miniaturize the mechanism and reduce labor costs." (Mr. W)
As a result of customization, heat generation from the motor has been reduced, enabling the device to be made more compact while maintaining stable measurement accuracy.
Company J thus decided to officially adopt SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. Denki's two-phase stepping motor, the SANMOTION F2 ( 2-phase ), and successfully completed development of the new model a few months later.
"SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. was the only one that even suggested customizing the motor like this. We were able to successfully improve the equipment thanks to SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. 's high level of technology and know-how, as well as their friendly support, and we are very grateful. We look forward to consulting them on various matters in the future, not just this time." (Mr. W)
