"Digital signage has a light source, so the inside of the device becomes very hot. Originally, we used an axial fan to cool the high-temperature light source in the narrow device. However, the movement of air inside the equipment became worse when we reduced the thickness of the main body, and the cooling performance of our current axial fan was insufficient.
The limits on mounting space were more severe in the new model, making us aware of the cooling limits of our current axial flow fan. The new model would also be installed outdoors, so we needed a fan with waterproofing so it could be used without problem during rainy weather."
Mr. K looked for a suitable axial flow fan, but he could not find any fan that satisfied all the size, cooling, and waterproofing requirements.
Mr. K was struggling to find a fan that met the conditions. He consulted a SANYO DENKI sales representative, with whom he had been doing business for some time, who suggested a Splash Proof Centrifugal Fan.
"The Splash Proof Centrifugal Fan, unlike the axial fan we had been using, drew in air from the intake side and discharged it after changing the airflow direction by 90 degrees. In particular, because it had high static pressure performance, it was good for cooling equipment with high mounting density. In addition, because the thickness of the fan was 35 mm, efficient cooling was possible even in a thin and narrow space by using a structure like a heat exchanger.
Furthermore, we confirmed that the IP54 protection level was sufficient for our need for waterproof performance," exclaimed Mr. K.
"Through our assessment, we confirmed that the fan could meet our desired cooling performance. It even had a little room to spare. Also, the fan's PWM control function, was another key point. Regulating the rotational speed to suit the ambient temperature reduces power consumption and noise.
Our new model has a large screen size, so the fan and power supply unit were mounted far apart. However, the connectors and lead lengths were flexibly customized to match the structure of the device." enthused Mr. K.
Company H had always used axial fans in their digital signage, but Mr. K had this to say about this development. "This is the first time we have used a Splash Proof Centrifugal Fan, and I believe it was the key to the success of this project. We are also developing new models, so we are looking forward to further proposals from SANYO DENKI," hinted Mr. K.
