Company U is a medical equipment manufacturer that produces X-ray machines and CT scanners. Company U has begun developing a new model of CT scanner. However, the development of the new model at Company U hit a wall. Mr. E, manager of the design and development department at Company U, says the following:
"A CT scanner is a device that irradiates the human body with X-rays from all directions and displays cross-sections of the body using the amount of X-rays that penetrate the body. Because X-rays are irradiated continuously, the internal temperature of a CT scanner rises rapidly. To keep this temperature rise down and operate the device normally, an internal fan is installed to cool it. However, because the part that irradiates the X-rays rotates at high speed, a strong centrifugal force is applied to the fan. The fan cannot withstand this centrifugal force and frequently breaks, so regular maintenance work is essential."
Mr. E, who was struggling to find a solution to his problem, contacted a person at SANYO DENKI CO., LTD., who had previously used his company in another project, to ask if there was any way to improve the situation. After listening to Mr. E's problem, the person at SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. suggested evaluating their new product, the San Ace G Proof Fan.
"We learned that the proposed fan was able to withstand a centrifugal acceleration of 75G by strengthening the rotor and frame components. This was a groundbreaking specification, and we felt it would be able to withstand even the extremely strong centrifugal forces generated by CT scanners." (Mr. E)
Mr. E was intrigued by this proposal, so he immediately incorporated it into his own prototype and began testing it. "Fans used in medical equipment must be highly reliable and operate correctly under any conditions. When we installed SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. 's fan in the equipment and tested its operation, we were able to confirm that it operated normally without any damage, deformation, abnormal noise, or performance degradation, even when subjected to unexpected acceleration and deceleration. We thought that this could lead to a significant reduction in maintenance man-hours." (Mr. E)
After that, U company officially adopted the San Ace G Proof Fan. They have completed the development of the new product and are now rolling it out to the market.
"We had looked at many different fans up until now, but we were worried because we couldn't find one that could withstand centrifugal force. We look forward to seeing more groundbreaking proposals from SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. in the future." (Mr. E)
