Currently, IT and communications infrastructure is installed throughout urban areas, and its number continues to increase with the development of 5G communications. Because this communications equipment is installed in close proximity to people, it is essential that it has high noise reduction performance, and companies are competing fiercely in the technological race.

Problem

How can we improve the cooling and environmental resistance of communications equipment while reducing noise?

Company B, which develops and manufactures various types of communication equipment, is developing a communication module that can be installed outdoors and is compatible with 5G. The company has run into several challenges. Director A of the Research and Development Department at Company B explains:
"The product under development is smaller than previous models, and because increased traffic processing will generate more heat, improving cooling performance was extremely important. Furthermore, because we envision it being installed outdoors, such as on the walls of buildings, it also needed to be waterproof and other environmentally resistant."

New challenges have also arisen due to the characteristics of 5G communications.
"Conventional 4G radio waves have a low frequency, can reach long distances, and tend to bend around buildings and other structures. On the other hand, 5G radio waves have a high frequency and tend to travel in a straight line, making them easily blocked by various objects. To solve this problem, we need to install many more base stations than ever before, which inevitably means that they will be installed close to people. As a result, the noise from cooling fans was also a major concern. In other words, we needed something that could withstand the environment and cool the high-temperature inside of the equipment while keeping noise levels lower than ever before."

Mr. A and his colleagues were looking for a high-performance cooling fan that could meet these requirements.

Solution

IP68 Splash Proof Fan with high airflow and high static pressure for efficient cooling

Mr. A, who was comparing fans from several companies on the Internet, noticed SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. products because of their high specifications, and contacted them through an agency. After listening carefully to Mr. A's issues, the SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. representative recommended the 9WPA type of "San Ace Splash Proof Fan," which has waterproof and dustproof performance with protection class IP68(*1) and has twice maximum airflow and four times maximum static pressure compared to the conventional 9WP type Splash Proof Fan (*2).
"It has IP68 waterproof and dustproof performance, and has impeccable specifications such as the industry's top (*3) high airflow and high static pressure. I was also attracted by PWM control function which allows for optimal operation with reduced noise." (Mr. A)

Technical support for prototype device operation measurement and customization

Mr. A was satisfied with these proposals. The SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. representative then offered further technical support.
"Because we didn't have an environment in which we could measure the noise level of the equipment, we sent a prototype of the equipment with a cooling fan built in to SANYO DENKI CO., LTD. 's Technology Center and had them measure it. This allowed us to confirm that the noise level was reduced by the PWM control of the San Ace Splash Proof Fan." (Mr. A)

Company B was satisfied with the measurement results of the prototype device and soon decided to adopt the "San Ace Splash Proof Fan" 9WPA type.

Furthermore, they also said they would be happy to discuss customization, such as adding connectors and tubes to the fan lead wires, so we would like to consult with them on other projects as well."
